Emerson is a project of an affiliate of The Howard Hughes Corporation (HHC).  In 2004, General Growth Properties acquired The Rouse Company, developer of the internationally acclaimed master planned community of Columbia, Maryland. As GGP emerged from bankruptcy in 2010, the company split into two separate public entities, making The Howard Hughes Corporation become the preeminent master planned community developer in the country.  In addition to Emerson and Columbia, HHC continues to develop the master planned communities of Summerlin in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Bridgeland, located just outside Houston, Texas.
